Adding an Extension to an Inpatient Request (LOS)
Overview
An Extension is a request to extend the duration of a previously approved or denied bed days, service, or procedure, often beyond the initially authorized timeframe.

When you need to extend a member's stay on an inpatient request.
If the Inpatient Request has LOS and Services, the LOS must be extended before the service(s).
Extending an Inpatient Request (LOS)
From the Inpatient block within the current request, do the following:
Based on your operational processes, the request may have been discharged and will need to be reopened to add an extension. If the request is still open, this step can be skipped.Click **Re-Open.**
Click the
**Extend** icon next to the LOS.
_Service Extensions are only allowed after the LOS is Extended._
The **Create Extension** box allows you to enter information about the Requester.These fields are not required, however, if you enter data into the type, phone, email and/or fax fields, the name will become required.
Click **Create Extension.**
**LOS Extension 1** is created. It will prefill information from the initial request.
_The LOS now displays the Extension details along with the outcome fields below for decisioning based on your organization's workflows._
Click
**Edit** to edit LOS Extension 1.
In this example, we will change the **Review Type** to Concurrent Review.The Due Date and Time is auto-calculated based on your organization's configurations and notification time, and can be edited if needed.Click **Save.**
LOS Extension 1 reflects the changes made during the edit.
Depending on your process, you can exit the request by setting a pend reason and saving, or continue to update the outcome. For this example, we will Approve the Extension with Clinical Criteria Met.
_If you changed the date, duration and/or units during the edit, be sure to check the values in the outcome line and adjust if needed._
(Optional) Add a Request Summary.
Lastly, you have the following options:* **Cancel-** the screen will reload with the extension in a pend status. You will need to update the outcome status and reason to save or submit. * **Save-** saves the changes for the extension, keeping you in the request to allow for additional changes. * **Submit-** returns you to your worklist and executes any automation your organization has configured.Click **Submit**.
