Assigning for Medical Director Review
Overview
Requests assigned to a medical director for review, also known as MD Review, need expert clinical oversight and assurance that decisions regarding healthcare services are made based on medical evidence, clinical guidelines, and the patient's specific circumstances. Common use cases are for high cost procedures, complex cases, and urgent requests.

When you need a decision to be made on a utilization request by a medical director, as dictated by your organization's policies.
Before assigning a request to an MD review, review the request to ensure it is complete, accurate, and includes all necessary supporting documentation.
Assigning a Request to an MD for Review
Start from the request view
### Verify Status and Status Reason* Set the request status to **Pend,** if necessary * Set the status outcome to the value configured by your organization that indicates a MD review is necessary.
### Choose Assignee* Scroll to the top of the request view. * Click **Assign.**
* Click the dropdown and select **Department** * Type the name of a department designated by your organization to be used for MD reviews. * Select the desired department from the list. * (Alternate) If the name of the medical director to review this request is known, enter their name to select them.
Click **Assign.**
(_Alternate_) Click **Close** to return to the request view without reassigning the request.
