Promoting a New Assessment to Production

The initial version of an assessment can be promoted from your test environment to your production environment via an import / export process. This process can also be used to save versions of your assessments in a JSON-like format.

This user guide details how to export one to many assessments and then import to another environment.

* Access to Assessment builder * Permission to import and export assessments

When you are ready to publish a new assessment to your production environment.

* Only draft and active assessments are able to be exported. * Avoid promoting an assessment from test to production once it is active in production. Although technically feasible, this results in duplicate assessments and disconnects response histories. For guidance on editing an active assessment, refer to [managing-assessment-versions-draft.md](managing-assessment-versions-draft.md "mention").

Exporting Assessments

Click **Export** on the Assessments Dashboard.

To include an assessment in the export, click the checkbox next to the assessment title.

You can use the keyword search bar at the top to quickly locate an assessment.

Click **Export.**

_**(Alternate)**_ Click **Close** to return to the Assessment Dashboard without performing an export.

Click **Confirm** after verifying the list of selected assessments is correct.

**(**_**Alternate)**_ Click **Back** to return make changes to the selected assessments.

When you download a single assessment, it saves as a file with an `.asmt` extension on your computer. If you download multiple assessments, they are combined into a ZIP file.

Importing Assessments

Click **Import** on the Assessments Dashboard.

Using your system's browser, select one to many assessments to be included in the import. All files must have an `.asmt` extension.

Complete the action in your system browser.

A status box displays showing the progress of the import. If successful, the new assessments appear on the Assessment Dashboard in a Draft state. To publish, refer to [managing-assessment-versions-draft.md](managing-assessment-versions-draft.md "mention")
