Using the Units Calculator

Overview

A units calculator is available on each service line. This is designed to simplify the process of determining the appropriate number of units to request based on a specified duration and frequency. By inputting the requested duration and frequency, the calculator automatically computes the total number of units required, reducing the risk of manual errors. It is important to note that the Units Calculator allows users to select the same unit of measure for both duration and frequency, such as days, weeks, or months. While this flexibility accommodates various scenarios, users must ensure that the chosen units align logically with the intended calculation.

Guidelines

  1. Understand the Relationship Between Duration and Frequency: Ensure that the duration and frequency units are compatible and make logical sense for the calculation. For example, if the duration is in days, the frequency should ideally be in days or weeks, not months, to avoid confusion. If using a duration unit that is one step smaller than the frequency unit, ensure that the duration exceeds at least one full cycle of the frequency unit. For example, if the duration is 8 days, it is appropriate to select a frequency of 1 week, as 8 days is greater than the 7 days in a week.

  2. Use Consistent Units When Possible: Whenever feasible, use the same unit of measure for both duration and frequency to simplify calculations and reduce errors.

  3. Double-Check Inputs: Verify that the entered duration and frequency accurately reflect the intended schedule or prescription.

  4. Consider Real-World Scenarios: Think about how the calculated units will be applied in practice. For example, if the frequency is "every 2 weeks," ensure the duration aligns with this interval.

  5. Review Results for Accuracy: After the calculation, confirm that the number of units makes sense for the requested timeframe and frequency.

Sample Entries and Expected Results

  1. Example 1:

  2. Duration: 14 days

  3. Frequency: Every 1 day

  4. Calculation: 14 days ÷ 1 day = 14 units

  5. Expected Result: 14 units

  6. Example 2:

  7. Duration: 1 month (30 days)

  8. Frequency: Every 2 weeks (14 days)

  9. Calculation: 30 days ÷ 14 days = 2.14 (rounded down to 2 units)

  10. Expected Result: 2 units

  11. Example 3:

  12. Duration: 3 months (90 days)

  13. Frequency: Every 1 month (30 days)

  14. Calculation: 90 days ÷ 30 days = 3 units

  15. Expected Result: 3 units

  16. Example 4:

  17. Duration: 14 days

  18. Frequency: Every 1 month (30 days)

  19. Calculation: 14 days ÷ 30 days = 0.46 (rounded up to 1 unit)

  20. Expected Result: The calculator fails on this since 2 weeks is less than the number of weeks in a month.

How to Use

Click the

icon next to the units of measure on the service line.

Enter the expected **Frequency.**

Select a unit of measure.

Click **Set Units** to transfer the calculated units to the service line.

If you change the duration in the the Calculator dialog box, this will also change in the service line.
